It’s been a while since I’ve roamed the wastelands of Fallout 4, easily my favorite in the popular Fallout franchise.
While I found New Vegas, the standout favorite among fans, to be fun and unique, it just didn’t grasp me like Fallout 4 did. Maybe it was the muddled, inferior graphics of New Vegas that turned me off and the improved graphics and stellar gunplay of Fallout 4 that got me hooked. I agree with fans that the story and dialogue is vastly better in New Vegas but beyond that, I didn’t find much to like about it. Perhaps with improved graphics and the adoption of Fallout 4’s weapons system, I would like it better.
I’ve played through Fallout 4 only once before, blowing past terminals in search of the next gunfight with a Super Mutant or Raider shooting his mouth off (no pun intended.)

My current playthrough has me taking my time with the story, reading every little message on every terminal I can get into. Or hack into. I listen to every little bit of information NPC’s (Non Playable Character’s) can tell me. It has made the game much more enjoyable and immersive this time around.
Fallout, the show on Amazon Prime, has made the games explode even more in popularity. New mods are available from new guns and outfits to complicated graphics overhauls. Some players are running well over one hundred mods and counting in their current playthrough.
I drew inspiration for this blog post from a mod easily installable within the ‘Mods’ menu in Fallout 4. It’s a mod adding a whopping six Tyrant’s to the game. These Tyrant’s are inspired by the Resident Evil series. As a previously avid gamer, I am ashamed to say I have not played any titles in the Capcom franchise. However, I know of the Tyrant’s sheerly due to their popularity, appearances in the movies and gaming clips found all over YouTube and now, this mod.

Tyrant’s are monstrous, supersized versions of the normal variety of bloodthirsty zombies. Strong, deadly and relentless, Tyrant’s such as Mr. X and the ubiquitous Nemesis, follows you constantly in the game, keeping you on your toes, ready to jump out from any corner and kill you with efficiency. The most popular as mentioned, Nemesis, carries a rocket launcher and sometimes a machine gun (from the movie). Tyrant’s like Mr. X can sprint without warning, climb up stairs or even jump off second-story platforms to get to the player.
I haven’t encountered all six Tyrant’s yet but their appearance most resembles Mr. X, who looks like a pissed off version of Mr. Clean. The strongest I’ve come across with easily the coolest name, Apollo The Plague Cleanser, wields nuka-grenades and a powerful flamethrower, dispatching anyone or anything that crosses his path. Even the strongest Deathclaw is no match for Apollo. I had to reload my game one time because Apollo followed me into Diamond City, killing off everyone in a timely manner, effectively eliminating every storekeeper I needed and many exciting quests I had planned on embarking on.

My first introduction to witnessing the most basic version of the Tyrant was exiting a small building only to see the frighteningly tall Tyrant just standing there turned away from me. I recognized him immediately and, not really knowing what to expect, moved in the opposite direction. Naturally, I had not crouched so he heard me, instantly turning to face me and giving chase, wordlessly running at me full speed . Terrified, I ran back into the building, shut the door and backed into the wall, waiting and hoping he couldn’t open doors.
Boy, was I wrong. The Tyrant pushed the door aside and with two giant steps, one-punch killed my character. It was a scary and awesome experience.
I highly recommend adding the Tyrant mod if you want to add more merciless killers to the wasteland.
